MIAMI – A federal judge has reduced the prison sentence for a former U.S. House candidate who pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations in a case linked to former congressman David Rivera.
The judge cut Justin Sternad's sentence from seven months to 30 days due to Sternad's cooperation in the Rivera investigation.

Sternad was part of a scheme to secretly finance his candidacy in the 2012 Democratic primary in an attempt to weaken eventual winner Joe Garcia.
Sternad and co-defendant Ana Alliegro admitted to their roles in the scheme, but says Rivera was the mastermind behind it.
Rivera denies any wrongdoing.
