Larry Johnson was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery early Tuesday morning after the incident at a club inside the Delano.
Miami Beach police said Larry Johnson punched Drew Johnson several times, breaking a bottle on the table and swinging it at him before punching him several more times while he was on the floor.
According to the lawsuit, Drew Johnson "was minding his own business at a table" when Larry Johnson "intentionally and repeatedly struck" him. The lawsuit claims Drew Johnson was so badly hurt that he had to go to the hospital.
The lawsuit is seeking compensatory and punitive damages from the physical scarring and disfigurement and medical expenses that Drew Johnson incurred.
According to the arrest report, Larry Johnson said he confronted Drew Johnson for taking drinks from his table when Drew Johnson pushed him. However, Drew Johnson claims the attack was unprovoked.
Larry Johnson, who was a first-round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2003, spent one season with the Miami Dolphins in 2011. He also played for the Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Redskins.
