Ibis stuck with fishing line in tree rescued, Ft. Lauderdale Fire Rescue says

Authorities: Bird fell into water after branch broke during rescue

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – An ibis that got stuck with a fishing line in a tree was rescued Thursday by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

Fire Rescue officials said the ibis was stuck in a tree where a ladder truck could not reach it. It had fishing line around its leg, tying it to a branch.

While firefighters tried to free the bird, the branch broke and fell into the water. Authorities said firefighters paddled out to rescue the ibis.

The ibis was turned over to a wildlife care center where, officials said, the bird is doing fine.
