Pembroke Pines Trader Joe's opens Friday

Store at 11960 Pines Boulevard open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Trader Joe's opened its first location in Broward County Friday, with hundreds of people coming out to the Pembroke Pines store.

The official opening of the store at 11960 Pines Boulevard was at 8 a.m., but the fun began at 7:15 a.m. with a performance by the Falcon Sound Marching Band from Charles W. Flannagan High School. Mayor Frank Ortis also joined the crowd for Trader Joe's traditional "lei-cutting" ceremony in front of the 12,500 square foot store.

The grocery store, which has more than 400 stores in 40 states, has somewhat of a cult following in many areas.

Hundreds attended the opening day festivities when South Florida's first location opened in Pinecrest last year. Since then other stores have opened in Boca Raton and Delray Beach and a Fort Lauderdale location is in the works.

The Pembroke Pines location will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
