FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – An estranged Fort Lauderdale couple is in critical condition after they were stabbed during a domestic dispute Tuesday morning.

Fort Lauderdale police Detective DeAnna Greenlaw said a neighbor heard the disturbance at 1026 NE 10th Ave. about 6 a.m. and called police.

When officers arrived, they found a man and woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. They were later identified as Martin Mahon, 57, and Gillian Johnston, 48.

Greenlaw said Mahon arrived at Johnston's apartment, forced his way inside and a physical altercation ensued. Greenlaw said the couple used to live together but had recently separated.

They were taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where they were listed in critical condition.

Detectives don't believe anyone else was inside the apartment at the time.

The incident remains under investigation.
