Coast Guard rescues suspected migrants after boat capsizes off Boca Raton

33 people rescued

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The U.S. Coast Guard rescued dozens of suspected migrants after their boat capsized in the water off Boca Raton.

Sky 10 was above the scene as the people were being pulled from the water.

The Coast Guard said 33 people were rescued.

A wooden boat was seen abandoned in the water. Another boat was upside down in the water.

The Coast Guard spotted the group while searching for two missing migrants who were traveling with 11 others rescued off Sands Key earlier this week. That search has since been suspended after the Coast Guard searched about 3,100 miles for the men.

Lt. Cmdr. Gabe Somma called the boat "grossly overloaded."

Many of the migrants jumped out of the boat while waiting to be rescued.

Somma said he believes all the migrants have been accounted for.

The Coast Guard was providing the migrants food and water and treating them for any injuries on a cutter.

"It's been a very busy week," Somma said. "It's been a very busy year."
