Fla. man pokes girlfriend in eye after she brings him wrong birthday breakfast

Police say James Irving angry after girlfriend brought him waffles instead of pancakes

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A fight about a Florida man's birthday breakfast landed him in jail after police said he poked his girlfriend in the eye.

James Irving, 44, was arrested Sunday after he got into a fight with his live-in girlfriend about the breakfast she gave him, police told The Gainesville Sun.

Irving wanted pancakes but instead got waffles, police said.

Upset, Irving poked his girlfriend in the eye, leading to his arrest on a misdemeanor battery charge.

Irving's bond was set at $5,000.

A spokeswoman for the Alachua County Sheriff's Office said jail inmates are served fruit, grits, sausage, bread and butter for breakfast.
