Miami police look for fatal hit-and-run driver

Popular homeless man killed while crossing the street

MIAMI – Miami police are looking for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a homeless man dead.

It happened on Northwest 7th Street and Northwest 23rd Court outside Diana Bakery.

Police said people at the bakery know the man because he comes every morning for coffee. His nickname in the area was "El Enano." People would often give him money and food to try and help him out.

After grabbing a cup of coffee, he grabbed his walker and started crossing the street. That's when he was struck.

The car continued driving on 22nd Avenue.

Witnesses told investigators the vehicle involved was a gray Mazda with a partial plate of CVO7. The vehicle is believed to have damage on the front end.
