Andrew Simmons sought in sailor's shooting

Career criminal believed to be involved in shooting that critically wounded Anthon Adams

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man who was recently released from jail is wanted in connection with the shooting of a Navy sailor who was visiting South Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Broward Sheriff's Office detectives said Monday an arrest warrant has been issued for Andrew Simmons.

Detectives believe Simmons, 26, of Oakland Park, was involved in the Thanksgiving evening shooting that left Anthon Adams critically injured.

Adams, 29, was standing outside his mother's home in North Lauderdale watching his daughters play with his nephew when a group of men got into an altercation with his brother. Adams was trying to stop the fight when one of the men pulled out a gun and shot him three times.

The sailor, who is stationed in Georgia, was taken to Broward Health North, where he remains in critical condition.

Detectives said Simmons is a career criminal who was released from jail just three weeks before the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the BSO at 954-321-4280 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
