Coast Guard crews in Key West were notified of the overdue boat about 6:30 p.m. and soon received a call from someone aboard the capsized boat who provided their position off Big Pine Key.

Upon arriving at the boat about 9 p.m., the Coast Guard found all four people sitting atop the hull.

All four boaters were taken to the Coast Guard Station Marathon and attended to by local emergency medical services.

"This case highlights the importance of filing a float plan which can directly contribute to the Coast Guard's ability to successfully locate and rescue mariners in distress," said Petty Officer 1st Class Michael Pintabona.
