Baby Jesus nativity scene returned to Coral Gables owner

Small figurine from holiday display stolen Dec. 3

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A Christmas miracle came early for one Coral Gables business.

Baby Jesus has returned to its holiday Nativity scene.

Allen Morris notified police Dec. 3 that the tiny figure of baby Jesus was taken from the holiday display in front of his business.

"These were actually models of hand-carved wooden figures made in Italy," Morris said Dec. 3.

Surveillance video showed a shadowy figure around the display and on Dec. 6 Coral Gables police were called to a location on Navarre Avenue after the property was found.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the Baby Jesus figure alone was valued at $2,500.

Morris arrived at the Coral Gables Police Department on Monday and positively identified the Baby Jesus as his own.

"We've received so many heartwarming phone calls and emails and text messages from people," Morris told Local 10 News. "The outpouring of interest and compassion has made me feel like it's just refocused the attention of what Christmas is all about. It's not Santa Claus' birthday. It's the birth of Jesus."

As of now, all is calm, all is bright.
