Salvation Army distributes thousands of toys Friday

Families registered for vouchers ahead of giveaway

HIALEAH, Fla. – The Salvation Army will distribute thousands of toys Friday to families from across Miami-Dade County as part of the Angel Tree program.

More than 7,000 toys were collected ahead of the giveaway in Hialeah.

Families registered in September to receive vouchers, allowing them to come to the giveaway to pick out toys for their children in the days leading up to Christmas.

Dozens of volunteers arrived as early as 5:30 a.m. to set up the toys ahead of the 8 a.m. distribution.

"It's incredible. There are so many kids that don't have the means or the resources to get the things they want and deserve this holiday season," said the giveaway's spokeswoman, Miss Miami United States Jessica Carpancho. "The Salvation Army makes that possible. So it's very important for everyone -- for the children, their families and for us to help as a community."
