MIAMI – A 79-year-old woman was arrested after she hit a 10-year-old girl with a metal hammer, police said.
Iona Aiken was arrested Monday on a charge of aggravated child abuse.

According to a Miami-Dade police report, the girl was in the living room listening to music and playing on her tablet when Aiken suddenly hit her with the hammer.
The girl was hit four times on the head and once on the shoulder, suffering a concussion and cut to her head. The girl's mother heard her daughter screaming and came to her aid before calling 911.
Paramedics took the girl to Baptist Hospital for treatment.
The police report said the girl lived at the home with Aiken and the girl's mother, but Aiken's relationship to the girl wasn't known.
A motive for the attack remains unknown.
