The first part of New Year's Eve went to the kids downtown, where bounce houses and face painting sites flooded the local parks and streets.

The kids enjoyed a mock NYE countdown at 7 p.m. around Southwest Fourth Avenue and Southwest Second Street in Fort Lauderdale. After that, the adults took over and ushered in the new year properly.

A live music stage was set up on one side of Southwest Second Street and a DJ/big screen on the other to watch the Orange Bowl.

The city of Fort Lauderdale expected more than 50,000 people to attend the event.
