Miami police pursuit ends with crash in Coral Gables

MIAMI – A 30-year-old man accused of leading police on a pursuit that began in the city of Miami and came to a crashing end in Coral Gables has been arrested, Miami police said.

Officers arrived about 3 p.m. Thursday at the Miami Princess Hotel, 4251 NW 11th St., after a woman called 911, claiming a man inside a white Dodge Ram pickup truck pointed a gun and shot at her, police said.

A Miami police officer in the area spotted a vehicle fitting the description of the subject vehicle and attempted to stop him. Police said the truck fled from officers, causing one of the officers in a marked unit to collide with another vehicle at Northwest 42nd Avenue and Second Street. The people inside the vehicle were treated and released by Miami paramedics.

Another officer in a marked Miami police vehicle pursued the truck, and during the pursuit saw the driver discard a large amount of suspected marijuana from the fleeing vehicle before it collided with a vehicle at the corner of Granada Boulevard and Mariana Street in Coral Gables, police said. The people inside that vehicle were not hurt.

George Rochela, 30, was taken into custody. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with a possible broken ankle as a result of the crash. Police said charges are pending.

The Miami police officer hurt in the crash was taken to Doctor's Hospital in stable condition with minor injuries, police said.

The woman alleging she had been shot at hung up and has not been able to be reached, according to Miami police.
