TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. – A Florida couple is accused of burglarizing a home as a cover-up plot to kill the family dog.

Daniel Adams, 34, and his girlfriend, Lauren Curran, 28, both of Dunedin, were arrested Wednesday on charges of burglary, animal cruelty and child neglect.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a burglary Wednesday night at a Tarpon Springs home. The residents, Alan and Laura Adams, told deputies their home had been burglarized, their iPad stolen and their dog killed.

Detectives said they determined that the victims' son, Daniel Adams, and Curran had committed the burglary.

During questioning, Daniel Adams admitted that he and Curran drove to the house with their child to kill his parents' 4-year-old Labrador, Daisy, detectives said.

The couple claimed that they killed the dog with an "intravenous needle filled with an unknown medication."

Detectives said Daniel Adams told them that they stole the iPad "to make his parents think someone else had committed the crime."

The couple claimed they killed the dog because they felt it was a threat to their child and to their own dog, WFTS-TV in Tampa reported.
