Car crashes into house in Pembroke Pines

1 injured after driver crashes through home

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – One person was injured after a car crashed into a house in Pembroke Pines.

The crash occurred Thursday afternoon at 8591 Johnson St.

Ana Maria Hernandez rents a room from the homeowner. She would have been home at the time of the crash, but she decided to stop by the mall after work.

"I don't know where I have to stay tonight," she told Local 10 News.

The owner, Rosa Luque, also wasn't home when the Toyota Camry smashed through her front door.

Christina Tavarez, who lives nearby, said she heard a loud noise, came outside and saw the car inside the house.

"It sounded like a big bang, mostly kind of like a gunshot," she told Local 10 News.

The driver of the car was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

Neighbors said drivers often use Johnson Street as a short cut, and speeding is a problem in the neighborhood.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
