Celebration honors South Florida police officers

MIAMI – Hundreds gathered Sunday to honor South Florida police officers.

The event, emceed by Local 10 News crime specialist John Turchin and put on by the Dade County Police Benevolent Association, began with a large ride and rally on motorcycles headed for Tropical Park from the PBA headquarters.

During the event Enríque Santos, the host of the morning show at 98.3 and a reserve police officer in Miami Dade County, called his friend Lino Diaz, the North Miami Beach police officer who was shot Friday.

The crowd was heard shouting, "We love you, Lino," as Santos held the phone up.

Diaz responded by saying, "Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will recover soon, and be out there and be battling evil again."
