Teenage boy survives gunshot to face in Miami's Liberty City

Police need information on attempted murder near 2 churches Sunday

MIAMI – A 14-year-old was recovering Monday at Jackson Memorial Hospital after he was shot in the face, police said.

He was shot in a busy area of Miami's Liberty City neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

A witness told police that she saw the teenage boy get off a car at Northwest 68th Street and 15th Avenue near the Apostolic Revival Center, 6702 NW 15th Ave.

A second later she said she saw a gunman get out of the car to chase him. The gunman shot him in the face, police said.

The boy ran past St. Peter's Missionary Baptist Church, 6699 NW 15 Ave., and fell down near Northwest 65th Street and 15th Avenue.

The boy started shouting, "Help me, please help me," a witness told police.

A Miami Fire Department paramedic said the victim was shot in the face and was conscious when he was taken to Ryder Trauma Center.

Detectives were asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-6160.
