Scooter, vehicle catch fire in crash

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 49-year-old driver of a scooter is dead after a fiery crash Saturday on Interstate 95, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 5:25 a.m. Saturday on I-95 in the area of State Road 9A and Northwest 62nd Street in Miami-Dade.

Dale V. Hudson, of Miramar, was traveling north on I-95 in the outside lane while riding his 2011 Kait scooter. Troopers said 19-year-old Derron Holas, of Miami Beach, was also traveling north on the interstate in his 2013 Nissan Altima.

Holas failed to slow down for Hudson, which led to his Altima colliding with the back of the scooter, troopers said. The Altima pushed the scooter forward before coming to a stop.

The FHP said Hudson was ejected from his scooter and came to a rest on the outside paved shoulder.

Both vehicles caught fire and became completely engulfed, troopers said. Both vehicles came to a final rest facing north on I-95 in the outside lane.

Troopers said Hudson (pictured, right) died as a result of the crash. Holas did not suffer any injuries.

The FHP said charges are pending.
