Arsenal found in home of former Miami-Dade corrections officer, police say

Anthony Campos had multiple convictions for grand theft

SURFSIDE, Fla. – Surfside police have arrested a convicted felon after an arsenal was allegedly found inside his home.

Anthony Campos, who is a former Miami-Dade County corrections officer, is on probation for numerous grand theft convictions in Broward County.

According to officers, the police department received a tip that led them to Campos' home where they found 14 rifles and ammunition inside a cabinet. A grenade was also found inside the home, but a Bomb Squad determined that it was fake.

"He also had other things like a light, caution tape and and other miscellaneous items used by police officers," said Sgt. Jay Matelis of the Surfside Police Department.  "No one is supposed to be in possession of police related items except police officers."

Police said Campos told neighbors he was a retired police office, a secret service agent and said he worked for Interpol. Police said none of those claims are true.
