Gunman fires shots during attempted robbery at gas station

Armed men run out of BP gas station in Oakland Park empty-handed

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – One of two gunmen fired shots inside a BP gas station during an attempted robbery in Oakland Park early Tuesday morning.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said the gunmen ran inside the gas station on Oakland Park Boulevard shortly before 5:30 a.m.

Surveillance video shows one of the men firing several shots at the bulletproof-glass window that protects the clerk.

"They were obviously very focused on getting into that bulletproof room," Carter said.

After about 15 seconds, the men ran out of the gas station empty-handed.

"They got out of there very quickly once they realized they weren't going to be able to crack the glass, and they knew enough not to park their vehicle in view of the surveillance cameras for the BP, so they ran into the convenience store as opposed to driving up next to the convenience store," Carter said.

No arrests have been made.

The clerk wasn't hurt. He didn't want to speak to Local 10 News about the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
