Donald Perry, 62, faces charge of aggravated assault

BIG COPPITT KEY, Fla. – A Big Coppitt Key man is facing charges after hitting another man with a bat, deputies said.

According to the arrest report, Donald Perry, 62, drove up to the 43-year-old victim, who was mowing someone's lawn, and started yelling at him about issues between the victim and Perry's daughter.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies said Perry then got out of his car and struck the victim with a bat on the back of his head and neck.

Perry told deputies that he owned the property the victim was on and said he wasn't allowed to be there. He also said the victim was holding a weed-wacker and he felt threatened.

Deputies said the victim did not fight back and there were no trespassing warning against him. A tenant on Perry's property told police said had hired the victim to mow her lawn.
