85-year-old woman attacked, robbed inside home

Police: Men posed as employees with water & sewer department

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Police are searching for two men who they said roughed up and robbed an elderly woman inside her home Monday in southwest Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade police said the men knocked on the 85-year-old woman's door on Southwest 128th Street off U.S. Highway 1, posing as employees with the county's water & sewer department.

"(He had) a water notice, he came and checked the yard and that's about it. The truck was here - he had his uniform and the whole 9," said Darryl Brice who lives in the neighborhood.

Police said the woman invited one of the men inside while the other man entered through a side door. Police said the man who was invited inside was distracting the woman by talking to her while his accomplice ransacked her bedroom.

The men became violent when she picked up her telephone to call a neighbor.

Detective Daniel Ferrin said the men became worried as to who she was calling.

"That's when they pushed her onto the ground," Ferrin said.

They took a few of the women's belongings and got away in a white truck.

The victim's daughter told Local 10 News that her mother is shaken up but otherwise doing OK.

Anyone with information about this robbery is asked to call police.
