Building may not have been retrofitted with sprinklers

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – Firefighters battled massive flames at an Opa-locka apartment complex late Friday afternoon.

The fire erupted at the Lakeview Apartments, 2401 NW 135th St., about 4:30 p.m.

Miami-Dade firefighters spent hours trying to contain heavy flames shooting from the roof of the building.

A resident who spoke to Local 10 News said she pulled the fire alarm after seeing the flames.

Property records show that the apartment was built in 1969 and may not have been retrofitted with sprinklers.
