Fingerprint ties suspect to 2014 home burglary

$29,000 worth of items stolen

MARGATE, Fla. – An 18-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after a fingerprint scan linked him to a Feb. 2, 2014 home burglary in Margate, police said.

Scott Louis is charged with grand theft and burglary of an unoccupied dwelling.

According to police, Louis smashed a window in the back of the home and crawled inside.

Police said Louis opened a lockbox and stole jewelry, cash and legal documents from the box, totaling about $29,000.

The victim came home later in the day to find his front door open and the items missing.

Police said detectives recovered a fingerprint on the window, linking Louis to the scene.

Louis appeared in court Thursday morning, where he was ordered to be held in jail in lieu of $15,000 bond.
