7-year-old drowns at Deerfield Beach pool party
BSO says child drowned after jumping back into pool
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A 7-year-old boy died Saturday afternoon at a pool party in Deerfield Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said Maliq Singletary was attending a pool party at a home on Northwest Second Terrace when he drowned.
The children were told to get out of the pool about 6 p.m., Concepcion said. That's when the boy and his cousin jumped in together, she said.
Concepcion said Maliq's cousin came back to the surface, but he did not.
The homeowner rushed outside, jumped in the water and pulled the boy out.
Concepcion said Maliq's aunt and other adults performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
Maliq was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.
