Missing boater planned disappearance in attempt to escape legal issues, deputies say

Richard Ohrn, 44, accused of stealing from elderly couple, forging documents

BOCA RATON, Fla. – A man who was reported missing after heading out on his boat off the coast of southern Palm Beach County on March 31 planned his own disappearance in an attempt to escape legal issues, deputies said.

According to WPBF, Richard Ohrn, 44, of Boca Raton, is a former broker for JP Morgan Chase. He had recently been accused of stealing $15,250 from two elderly customers.

Ohrn also allegedly forged records and changed clients' address information so that they did not receive account statements or trade confirmations.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera said a 19-foot Sea Ray boat that was rented in Broward County was found adrift about two miles from shore the same day he was reported missing.

Authorities found Ohrn at his home Sunday and said he admitted planning his disappearance.
