Man takes Miami police cruiser on joyride, police say
Police: Larry Nystrom, 51, says he 'had fun on joyride, even turned on the lights and sirens'
MIAMI – A 51-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after stealing a Miami police cruiser and going on a joyride, police said.
According to an arrest report, Larry Nystrom pulled up to the entrance of Jackson Memorial Hospital's crisis center in the car and "appeared to be in a state of mental distress."
Police said Nystrom had a "blank stare and shaky hands."
According to the report, Nystrom refused to identify himself while being questioned.
Police said he tried to reenter the police car but was ordered out of the vehicle. Police said hospital security helped remove Nystrom from the car and place him in handcuffs.
While Nystrom was being taken into custody, the police cruiser was reported missing.
After further questioning, police said Nystrom admitted to stealing the car and said, "I had fun on the joyride and I even turned on the lights and sirens."
