Las Olas bridal shop owners file for bankruptcy

Brides say they received damaged, unfinished wedding dresses

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – After a bridal shop on Las Olas Boulevard suddenly closed its doors last month, the shop owners have now filed for bankruptcy.

Several brides contacted Local 10 News, claiming the wedding dresses they paid for in full at Victoria's Bridal Couture were dropped off at their homes, stuffed inside cardboard boxes. Some were unfinished and damaged.

"You dream of what your princess gown is going to look like when you marry your Prince Charming, and that is not what you expect it to look like," Marguerite Candia said.

The only explanation they got was a letter, saying the store can no longer hold their dresses anymore.

Owners Julie and Christopher Salerno filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy April 6. According to documents obtained by Local 10, the couple owes close to $500,000.

The documents also list people and suppliers to which the couple owes money. A total of 927 names are listed.

From the outside, Victoria's Bridal Couture looks open for business, but posted on the door is a notice from the realty company that manages the space, saying the tenants have not paid rent since November and owe about $15,000.

Local 10 contacted the couple's attorney but hasn't heard back. The couple has a hearing at the federal courthouse in Fort Lauderdale on May 11.
