Man accused of beating girlfriend, causing disfigurement

Police: Victim beaten to point where she couldn't open eyes

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – A man from Coconut Creek is behind bars after beating the mother of his daughter to the point that she needs reconstructive surgery on her face, police said.

According to court documents, Toddric Knight, 30, punched the victim in the face and head multiple times, and slammed her head against "unknown objects to the point where she could no longer open her eyes to see."

Police said the victim claimed Knight took away her cellphone and refused to take her to the hospital.

According to officers, Knight eventually took the victim to the hospital. Police said Knight tried to leave the emergency room with the couple's 4-year-old daughter, but was confronted by a detective.

After a verbal argument with the detective, Knight left the girl at the hospital and drove off, police said.

The detective said he observed a "large amount of swelling and bruising to her (the victim's) face and eyes, to the point where she could not open her eyes."

The emergency room doctor told the detective that the victim suffered severe fractures to her face and sinus' that would require surgery to repair. She also suffered orbital damage, which the doctor said would result in permanent disfigurement.

Knight was was later arrested on charges of aggravated battery and false imprisonment.
