Hollywood strip mall closed after massive fire

Several businesses destroyed in Monday's fire; plaza closed due to structural concerns

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A strip mall in Hollywood remains closed after a massive fire broke out Monday.

The fire burned for hours at the shopping plaza at Hollywood Boulevard and State Road 7, destroying several businesses and prompting the evacuation of people and animals at a Pet Supermarket.

"I have lived here for years, I always come here shopping," shopper Beatrice Antelo said.

Before the clean up can begin, the investigation into the cause must wrap up. Authorities said the fire spread quickly and grew enormous before fire crews could extinguish the flames.

Authorities said the roof of the strip mall collapsed during the fire.

The area is now roped off due to structural concerns.

Shoemaker and business owner Sean came by the mall on Tuesday to see the aftermath.

"My heart goes out to all these people," Sean said. "If not for the grace of God, it could have been me, that's how I make my living."
