Attempted burglary leads to police chase in Fort Lauderdale

2 teens accused of trying to break into home hide in Dollar Store, stuff themselves inside boxes

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – An attempted burglary led to a police chase Tuesday morning in Fort Lauderdale.

Sky 10 was above the scene at West Sunrise Blvd off Powerline Road about 11:20 a.m. as multiple police cars were surrounding a silver Infiniti sport utility vehicle.

Detectives were seen searching the SUV.

Fort Lauderdale police said two teenage boys tried to beak into a home in Fort Lauderdale, but the homeowner was inside and called police.

Police said the teens then fled in the stolen SUV.

According to officers, the boys ditched the vehicle and ran into a Family Dollar store, where they tried hiding in the bathroom and stuffing themselves inside boxes.

But that didn't work.

Surveillance video from the store showed the boys laying on the ground while officers surrounded them with their guns drawn.

The suspects were taken into custody.

Police have not released the teens' ages.
