Woman bitten on finger by shark in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

Victim refuses treatment, returns to beach

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. – A woman was bitten by a shark Friday afternoon while fishing in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

Sky 10 was over the scene at Commercial Boulevard as two people spoke to paramedics.

The victim had a bandage over one of her fingers, and authorities said she refused to go to a hospital.

According to paramedics, a man was fishing off a pier while the woman was swimming in the water below. They said the man hooked a nurse shark and the woman tried to unhook it, but was bitten in the process.

Despite her injury, the woman didn't let it ruin her day and returned to the beach shortly afterward.
