Delays expected as poles added to I-95 express lanes

Lane closures in effect from Friday morning to Monday morning

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Delays are expected this weekend for drivers on Interstate 95 as southbound lanes undergo a makeover.

Up to three southbound lanes will be closed from 9 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, as crews install plastic poles from south of Ives Dairy Road to the Golden Glades interchange, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

The plastic poles will separate the express lanes on the left side of the highway.

Once the project is completed, the entrance to the southbound express lanes will be south of Ives Dairy Road.

The project is only expected to take a day, but the contractor warns that delays could come depending on the weather or any other unexpected issues.

At least two southbound lanes are expected to remain open throughout the weekend, and drivers will not be tolled for using the express lanes in either direction north of the Golden Glades.

Tolls will be enforced between the Golden Glades and downtown Miami.

To avoid delays, drivers are advised to take Florida's Turnpike to the Golden Glades.
