Miami burglar caught red-handed, police say

Leonel Andino arrested early Thursday morning


MIAMI – A 43-year-old man was arrested early Thursday morning after he was caught burglarizing homes in a Miami neighborhood, police said.

Leonel Andino faces one count of burglary of an unoccupied structure and one count of criminal mischief.

According to police, an officer was flagged down about 3:15 a.m. by a resident who said he had seen a suspicious man walking and running between homes in the area of Northwest 62nd Court and Second Street.

Other officers in the area spotted Andino, who matched the description given by the witness.

Police said Andino ran from officers and was found hiding behind an air conditioning unit in the back yard of a nearby home.

Police said Andino was wearing a mask, a black baseball hat and black gloves. They said he was also in possession of burglary tools, such as pliers, cutting tools and a flashlight.

According to officers, many of the devices and tubing connected to the air conditioning unit had been tampered with and cut.
