Local 10 News viewer delivers A/C unit to burglary victim
Lois Summers, 76, used 2 fans inside home after unit stolen
MIAMI – A 76-year-old woman who was sweltering inside her Miami home after her air conditioning unit was stolen is thanking a Local 10 News viewer who delivered her a brand new unit Wednesday free of charge.
Lois Summers is a widow who lives on a fixed income. She said thieves snatched her A/C unit straight from the pipes and cement outside her home.
As first reported on Tuesday, her only relief was a pair of fans, which only blow warm air because her windows are kept shut for security.
"I saw your story there, and I just felt like I needed to help out," Bill McGuire told a thankful Summers.
"Thank God for life is all I can say," said Summers. "It's been hard but I'm going to be better now I think -- now with the cool A/C."
McGuire isn't in the A/C business, but had the system sitting around, boxed up after a failed remodeling project.
"Eight years in my warehouse, just waiting for this time, and this was the time," said McGuire.
McGuire knows a licensed A/C installer who has plans to show up Thursday to get the system up and running, free of charge. Summers is also expected to have a security cage installed so another theft doesn't happen.
