MIRAMAR, Fla. – Tropical Financial Credit is looking to honor a local hero in the South Florida community.

The not-for-profit financial institution will select one hero in the tri-county area and present that person with $2,500 cash and make a $1,000 donation to the charity of the winner's choosing.

"Our credit union is made up of everyday, hard-working people who've pooled their money together to help each other financially and to help the community," said Rich Helber, CEO and president of Tropical Financial. "These are the same types of people who are doing selfless acts on a daily or weekly basis to make Southeast Florida a better place to work and live.  And while we know there are many local heroes out there, we want to honor one who has gone above and beyond the call of duty."

Nominations must describe why the nominee should be selected and submissions may be entered through Aug. 21.

A panel of judges will then select the winner based on the nominee's impact on the community, number of people impacted by his or her actions and the compelling nature of his or her story.
