Fire at vacant Pinecrest home called suspicious

Second fire to Pinecrest home within 24 hours

PINECREST, Fla. – A fire burned at a vacant home in Pinecrest early Tuesday morning, and now the fire is being called suspicious.

Multiple units were called to the home at Southwest 94th Street and Ludlam Road after the fire started about 2 a.m.

Cellphone video sent to Local 10 News showed the flames from blocks away.

"The initial challenge was just making access to the building," Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Battalion Chief David Reardon said.

Reardon said investigators believe the fire is suspicious because the home was possibly in foreclosure and nobody was there.

Hot spots were being monitored as investigators sift through more than a dozen rooms to determine the cause of the fire.

The fire came just a day after a lit cigarette started a fire at a home about a half a mile away at Southwest 67th Avenue and 100th Street. The family in that home called 911 and safely evacuated the wood-framed home.

Fire officials said the fires are not related.
