Mother of man murdered in Miami asks community for help finding gunman

Matthew Jackson, 21, found shot several times

MIAMI – The family of a young man murdered in Miami last month is begging the community to get over the no-snitch culture and come forward with information on a gunman.

Residents found Matthew Jackson in an alley near 50th Street just west of Interstate 95 the morning of Aug. 31. He had been shot several times.

Jackson had just turned 21 and planned to return to Northwestern High School. He leaves heartbroken family begging for someone to come forward with what they know.

"He was very well known," said Matthew Jackson's mother, Kendrell Jackson. "And for people just to sit there be quiet is really irking me."

"It's our oldest child. To lose oldest child -- there are no words to express what we really feel," said Matthew Jackson's father, Johnnie Mathis Jr.

A $3,000 reward is offered to anyone with information that leads to an arrest.
