Credit card skimmers found at 2 Bank of America ATMs in upper Keys

ATMs compromised at 99, 92.2 mile markers

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Skimming devices were found on two automated teller machines Sunday in the upper Keys.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said both ATMs were at Bank of America branches, one at mile marker 99 and the other at mile marker 92.2.

Herrin said the first skimmer was discovered Sunday morning when a customer placed her card into the machine and didn't get it back. Instead, the ATM screen gave a warning about the card's protection. The customer then found the skimming device on top of the card slot.

Deputies were called and began checking other ATMs in the area, discovering another skimming device.

Herrin said Bank of America is working with detectives to find the person responsible. Bank of America claims it checks its machines regularly and last did so Friday.

Detectives are warning the public to be alert to anything out of the ordinary when using their cards.
