First McDonald's restaurant ordered shut in South Florida in several years

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Records show 22 violations were found at Hosteria Romana on Espanola Way.

State inspectors  found a roach problem there and ordered the Miami Beach restaurant shut last week.

A roach issue also caused state inspectors to close George's on 72nd street in Miami Beach as well.

For the first time in years, a McDonald's was ordered shut in South Florida.

State records indicate a McDonald's in Pompano Beach had a roach issue.

And employees who work in the Broward Government Center should know about a rodent issue discovered in a third-floor restaurant called Center Stage Grille.

Below is a list of the places ordered shut and some of their violations. All the places were allowed to re-open following ordered clean up and re-inspections.

"Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. At time of inspection, found approximately 7 live roaches in the kitchen area: under the dishwasher, in the wall seam next to the electrical box, on the wall and floor behind food tray with bread and on metal of food tray."

"Dead roaches on premises. At time of inspection, found approximately 2 dead roaches in the kitchen area: on the floor under the can opener blade, on the floor behind food tray."

"Slicer blade soiled with old food debris."

"Rodent activity present as evidenced by rodent droppings found. Observed approximately 35-40 fresh rodent droppings in open dry storage area and in hallway leading to bathrooms. Observed approximately 10 fresh rodent droppings under hand wash sink in kitchen prep area . Observed approximately 8 fresh rodent droppings in mop sink area."

"Interior of microwave soiled with encrusted food debris. Top part of interior in front line."

"Dead roaches on premises. One dead roach by walk-in cooler."

"Food with mold-like growth. See stop sale. Bonnet peppers in walk in cooler had mold on them. Operator discarded. 1 lb."

"Accumulation of black/green mold-like substance on/around lemonade/ juice dispensing nozzles."

"Stop Sale issued due to food originating from an unapproved source. Observed juices that were home made and sealed inside if the beverage cooler. Juices are made in house and labeled with marker. "Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit .fish at 78° according to manager it was out being prepared since 10 am. Cooked beef 53, ox tail 54, cooked pork 54, cooked goat 53, found in walking cooler from previous day according to manager."
