Man accused of firing shots near North Perry Airport

Suspect taken into custody Monday morning

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A man was arrested Monday after parking his pickup truck at North Perry Airport and firing at least one shot from inside the truck, police said.

Pembroke Pines police spokeswoman Amanda Conwell said officers were called to the airport after receiving a 911 call about a suspicious pickup truck that was parked in the area.

Responding officers said an apparent gunshot had shattered the passenger-side window of the truck.

Conwell said police ordered the 39-year-old man who was inside the truck to step out. She said he got out from the driver's side with a firearm visibly holstered in his waistband.

"While it has been determined that shots were fired from within the vehicle, it is currently unknown where or under what circumstances," Conwell said.

According to Conwell, the man placed the gun on the floorboard and was taken into custody.

Sky 10 was above the scene about 8 a.m. as the suspect was ordered to the ground at gunpoint and handcuffed.

Police said the suspect was taken to a hospital to undergo a mental evaluation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Pembroke Pines police at 954-431-2200.
