NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man has been arrested after he allegedly struck his mother with his car Monday afternoon at North Miami Beach High School, police said.

Miami-Dade police said the driver fled the scene and was found in the area of Northwest 167th Street and Second Avenue just east of the Golden Glades Interchange.

Police said the suspect, who has not been identified, is charged with fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault and resisting without violence.

Miami-Dade County Public Schools police is handling the investigation and told Local 10 News that the suspect was visiting his mother, who is a teacher at the school.

Police said the woman was taken to a hospital.

The school district released a statement shortly after the incident: "Although not a school-related incident, it is unfortunate that a domestic dispute between a mother and son would result in harm to one of our teachers. We will collaborate with law enforcement and provide whatever support is needed to ensure a speedy recovery."
