Casey Fletcher faces manslaughter charge after pushing victim to sidewalk

Medical examiner rules cause of death as blunt-force trauma

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A man is facing a manslaughter charge for pushing another man onto the sidewalk last weekend after the victim struck his girlfriend's car with a cane, an arrest report said.

According to Broward Sheriff's Office detectives, Casey Fletcher, 28, took his truck to Prospect Tires at 60 W. Prospect Blvd. in Oakland Park on Sunday to purchase new tires.

Deputies said Fletcher left the shop with his girlfriend, Rachele Mamo, and returned with her later in the day to pick up his truck.

As Mamo was leaving the shop in her Toyota FJ Cruiser, she blocked the sidewalk where the victim, Ray French, was attempting to cross, the report said.

Detectives said surveillance video shows French striking Mamo's vehicle with his cane.

The video then shows Mamo getting out of her car to approach French. Detectives said a man, believed to be Fletcher, jumped out of a white van and shoved French to the ground, causing him to hit his head on the sidewalk.

Detectives said Fletcher motioned for Mamo to leave and they both got in their vehicles and fled the scene.

Detectives said Fletcher's attorney contacted authorities Tuesday, and the attorney and Fletcher came to the Broward Sheriff's Office Public Safety Building for questioning. Detectives said Fletcher admitted to shoving French to the ground.

Fletcher was arrested the next day after French was pronounced dead at Broward General Hospital.

A medical examiner ruled the cause of death as blunt-force trauma and the manner of death to be a homicide.
