Wall at North Miami construction site to be torn down after teen injured
Teen suffered leg injury when part of wall collapsed
NORTH MIAMI. Fla. – Construction crews are cleaning up the North Miami site where a teenage boy was injured after a wall fell on his leg.
Geradet Pierre's brother told Local 10 News that they were walking Thursday afternoon near a 5-foot wall in the area of Northeast 18th Avenue and 146th Street when a concrete block landed on the teen's leg.
Pierre was taken to Jackson North Medical Center, where he received X-rays and stitches.
Records show the property where the incident happened is being rented by Group 1 Automotive, which is building an auto dealership.
"We are working together with the city to better understand the cause of the incident and to make sure that the site is secured," the company said in a statement to Local 10 News. "Our first concern is for the young man who was injured and making sure that he is taken care of."
A representative from the company said engineers determined that the wall is structurally unsound and they are having it torn down.
A chain-link fence will replace the spot where the wall stood.
