Hurricanes head back to practice after major loss to Clemson

Larry Scott speaks to media after becoming interim head coach

MIAMI – The Miami Hurricanes headed back to practice Tuesday, just days after their major loss to Clemson.

Star cornerback Artie Burns was absent from the practice because he lost his mother to a heart attack earlier in the morning.

Loss was definitely a word the team has felt in the past few days both on and off the field.

"You take that and you put it on top of the last four days, which have been kind of rough for our program and young people," interim head coach Larry Scott said at a news conference. "At the end of the day, for all of us, that's all that it's about – it's the young men in this program. I challenged the coaches when we all got this whole thing started, when I was given the title of interim head coach, to really tap into some of the reasons you choose to be a coach. That's what it's going to take right now. It's going to be far more than the X's and the O's, and getting this from a standpoint of corrected football. It's going to be about being able to mentor and reach these young men, and help them and guide them through a rough period in their lives."

Scott was named to his new post Sunday after Al Golden's dismissal as head coach after a blowout loss to Clemson over the weekend.

A Florida native, Scott is currently in his third season with Miami, having served as tight ends coach since 2013.
