Boat scorched at Dinner Key Marina in Miami

Neighboring boat also sustains damage from fire

MIAMI – A boat was scorched in a fire Wednesday morning at Dinner Key Marina in Miami.

Miami Fire Rescue was called to the marina at 2640 S. Bay Shore Drive at about 5:30 a.m. as flames engulfed the boat.

Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Capt. Ignatius Carroll Jr. said a security guard at the marina first spotted the fire and woke up a boater. The two men hosed down the flames, but the fire was too intense.

According to Carroll, the men watered the boats next to the boat that was on fire until firefighters arrived. Crews were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes of arriving to the marina.

One other boat sustained damage from the fire. No injuries were reported and the owner of the boat that caught fire was not at the marina at the time.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
