Death of 2-year-old girl ruled homicide

Za'mya Williams pronounced dead Thursday at Plantation General Hospital

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ The death of a 2-year-old girl who was found unconscious and unresponsive at her home near Fort Lauderdale has been ruled a homicide.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said Monday that the death Thursday was ruled a homicide after the results of a medical examiner's autopsy.

Concepcion said deputies were called to a home on Northwest 17th Street early Thursday morning after Za'mya Williams was found unconscious and unresponsive on a bed.

The girl was taken to Plantation General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Concepcion didn't say how the girl died.

BSO homicide detectives are investigating the death.

"Our detectives are continuing their investigation to try to determine exactly how that homicide occurred," Concepcion told Local 10 News.
