Davie man sexually assaults girl he picked up from school bus stop, police say

Girl says she knew Rodman Jose Rivera Chirinos from church

Rodman Jose Rivera Chirinos is accused of sexually assaulting a girl he knew from church.

DAVIE, Fla. – A Davie man was arrested Tuesday after he picked up a middle school student from a bus stop and sexually assaulted her inside his van in a church parking lot, police said.

Rodman Jose Rivera Chirinos, 46, was arrested on charges of lewd or lascivious molestation on a minor.

According to the arrest report, Rivera Chirinos offered the girl a ride to school while she was waiting at the bus stop. She told police that she agreed to go with him because he kept asking.

The girl told police that he drove her to a nearby church and parked because he wanted to "chill" with her.

Rivera Chirinos then reached inside the girl's shirt and began to fondle her breast, the report said.

The girl said she moved to the second row of seats to get away from him, but he followed her and began to kiss her on the face and neck. She said Rivera Chirinos pulled her pants down and began to touch her in her genitals. She told police that she tried to stop him but couldn't.

Police said Rivera Chirinos took the girl back to the bus stop and dropped her off. The girl said she took a city bus to school and told school employees what happened.

The girl told police that she knew Rivera Chirinos from church and had gone to elementary school with his children.

Police said Rivera Chirinos admitted to picking up the girl and taking her to the church parking lot, but he denied touching her. Police said he claimed that he went to the back seat to masturbate but stopped when she started to move to the back of the van.
